The department of ENT is a fully equipped tertiary health care centre catering to Ear, Nose, Throat, Head & Neck and Skull Base diseases. There is bed strength of 40 and a daily average out-patient attendance of about 100 patients. There is also a well equipped Audiology, Speech and Language Pathology section. This section has a unique Early Intervention Centre for the disabled which also conducts training for disabled children.


The department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, apart from routine Otolaryngological surgeries, regularly performs major head and neck surgeries, skull base surgeries, micro-ear surgeries, micro-laryngeal surgeries and Cochlear implants.

The Cochlear Implant Programme has derived excellent results and has provided hearing solutions to many patients. This is supported by a dedicated Audiology, Speech and Language Pathology department with the best facilities.

Laryngectomies, conservative laryngeal surgeries, thyroplasties, neck dissections, thyroidectomies, parotidectomies and gastric pull ups are done routinely and some of these are one of the biggest series in the world. Microvascular reconstruction using free flaps, in association with the Department of Plastic surgery is performed with excellent results. Skull base surgeries including Temporal Bone resections, Acoustic Neuroma excisions, Glomus and CP angle tumor resections and acoustic neuroma excisions are routinely performed. Trans-nasal endoscopic cranial surgeries like pituitary adenoma excisions and sphenoidal lesions form a part of the surgical repertoire. Treatment of diseases like allergic rhinitis and vertigo with the help of Yoga is also practiced in our center.

A good number of faciomaxillary traumas, septo-rhinoplasties are performed. Tympanoplasties, Ossiculoplasties, facial nerve decompressions and stapedectomies also form a part of the department’s surgical repertoire. Endoscopic surgeries like FESS, CSF leak repair, endoscopic DCR, trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomies and trans-septal approaches to sphenoidal & skull base are routinely performed.

Both the affiliated hospitals have a well equipped operation theatre with the state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary Carl Zeiss operating microscopes, all types of endoscopes with endo-visual camera along with other facilities.

The outpatient sections serve an average of 150 patients a day and are supported by fully equipped treatment rooms and state-of-the-art video capture and recording units for teaching, research and documentation purposes.

For surgical management, operation theatres furnished with 2 Carl Zeiss Universal operating microscope, 1 Carl Zeiss PIKA microscope, all degrees of Karl Storz endoscopes, video cameras, microdebrider, harmonic scalpel and a full complement of the latest surgical instruments and assistance of well trained nursing staff and excellent ward and in-patient facilities are available on par with similar institutions around the world.

In addition to routine ENT work, micro ear surgeries, functional Endoscopic sinus surgeries, are being done for treatment of ear, nose and paranasal sinus diseases. The Cochlear Implant Programme has provided the best results to many implantees. All equipments for Head and neck and Skull Base surgeries exist and these cases are routinely being managed by our faculty. BERA and Electronystagmography are routinely performed in the department.
