Optical Coherence Tomography

KMC Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology has the latest equipment, the Carl Zeiss Meditec Cirrus HD-OCT which has become a recognized standard of care; which delivers unprecedented imaging details for clinical decision making. It provides superior visualization of anatomical details across a wide range of patients. Maps and images highlight clinically relevant details for identification and monitoring of specific diseases-all at a glance.

This equipment helps to examine the fine details of the retina and also to know the precise location of the pathology. It also delivers exquisite high definition images of the ocular structures. Repeatable visualization of clinically relevant anatomy with exact correlation is possible with the scan and fundus image. Patients with cataract can be examined with this machine, without dilatation and is patient friendly.

OCT is helpful in revealing subtle details in Age Related Macular Degeneration, Central Serous Retinopathy, Epiretinal Membrane, Vitreomacular traction, Deformations in normal retinal contour, measurement of retinal thickness and its irregularities and much more. Diabetic Macular edema is another disease in which OCT is specially rewarding. It also helps in getting high definition acquisition and analysis which are essential for Glaucoma detection and management.
